Ganga flows above danger mark in Patna, over 1 lakh evacuated as Bihar floods worsen

Continuous heavy rainfall over the past few days has pushed the Ganga river above the danger mark at multiple points in Patna and other Bihar districts, resulting in flood-like conditions in many low-lying areas. The Water Resources Department (WRD) reported that as of 9 am Saturday, the Ganga was flowing above danger levels at Maner, Danapur, Digha Ghat, Gandhi Ghat, Banka Ghat, and Hathidah in Patna district.

Other rivers in Bihar, including the Gandak, Kosi, Burhi Gandak, Mahananda, and Kamla, have also recorded rising water levels following incessant rains. Districts such as Vaishali, Muzaffarpur, Bhagalpur, Bhojpur, Khagaria, Purnea, Madhepura, Saharsa, and Katihar have been affected by these rising rivers. Many low-lying areas in these districts are experiencing flooding and waterlogging.

The Disaster Management Department stated that over 89,250 people were evacuated from low-lying areas in Patna district and shifted to relief camps on Friday. Additionally, 21,700 people from 11 panchayats in Bhojpur district have been evacuated and accommodated in relief centers. District administrations have been advised to remain alert and take necessary preventive measures.

Officials from the state Water Resources Department noted that although rivers across Bihar are maintaining a rising trend, the flood situation in the state is currently not alarming. The department continues to monitor water levels closely to assess further developments.

Authorities have urged residents in flood-prone areas to stay vigilant and cooperate with relief operations. With the continuous rainfall and rising river levels, government departments are maintaining preparedness to handle any escalation in flood conditions in Bihar’s affected districts.
